ELLE fashion shoot

ELLE & L’Oréal Paris

NEW TALENT

ELLE Fashion shoot

The first part of my prize, for winning the ELLE and L’Oréal Paris new make-up talent award, was to assist on a shoot for ELLE magazine where I assisted make-up artist Helen Asher. Assisting Helen was great; she was very friendly and full of energy!

In the morning we had two models come along. Firstly I observed Helens approach with the models, then I watched her technique in cleansing and preparing the models face to begin applying the make-up. I watched her do all the make-up for both models, I was amazed at how fast she was and realised that this came down to her preparation and organisation.

In the afternoon another model came so that I could do her make-up for ELLE. Before Helen and I decided on the make-up look, we went through the different clothes that had been delivered for the model, analysed the style and colours and decided to go for a dark, smokey look on the eyes with a plum colour on the lips.

I picked up lots of tips just from watching Helen, such as, when doing a smokey eye, remembering to stick to the inner socket line and blend upwards from there. Also to take a step back from the model every now and again, to observe the shape of the eye make-up with the natural contour of the eyes socket line, from a distance as well as up close - to get a view to the photographer’s perspective!
